Four Days Of Pongal Festival
1).Bhogi Pongal: is on 14th January, Thursday, is devoted to Lord Indra, God Of Rain. On this day people cook food on clay pots put over a bonfire made up of wood and cow's dung cake. People through old and waste things out of the house and celebrate the day with new things.
2).Thai Pongal or Surya Pongal: is on 15th January, Friday, is devoted to Lord Surya. This day is the main event of the Pongal Festival associated with Makar Sankranti. On this day people wake up early in the morning and after taking bath and make a good Rangoli design called kolams on the floor through lime powder at the entrance of their house and decorate their homes with mangoes leaves and bananas leave.
And also start to boil rice in the earthen pot along with milk, jaggery is boiled together in open to welcome Sun for eating. Other items also offer to Sun God are sugarcane pieces, coconut, and bananas also.
3).Mattu Pongal: is on 16th January, Saturday, is Celebrated to say thanks to farm animals for their help in fields. As a story, Lord Shiva sent his bull Nandi to earth with one message pass to people that take oil bath every day and eat once a month but due to confusion, Nandi passed the wrong message to people that eat daily and take oil bath one in a month and this made God Shiva angry over Nandi and sent Ox to earth forever to help people during harvesting and producing food.
4).Kaanum Pongal: is on 17th January, Sunday, is celebrated to thank friends and relatives for their kind cooperation during the year and women pray for their brother for their prosperity.
